WELCOME TO THE FNQMRC WEBSITE

The FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND MODEL RAILWAY CLUB is a fraternity of like minded enthusiasts who model railways in a variety of scales in a variety of geographical locations. Our present list of forty three members live from Mission Beach to Port Douglas, from Cairns to Ravenshoe, and many places in between. We do not own any form of club rooms but we meet once a month in one an-others homes to enjoy a barbeque lunch, to make a thorough examination of our host's layout and show and tell each other of our recent rail experiences. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, no one is intimidated and the inevitable learning process is first class. The collective skill, expertise and knowledge of our members is a mine of information and is freely available to all.

Our members model a wide variety of types of railway. There are those who construct places of particular significance, recalling boyhood memories and creating a social history of days long gone. There are those who create working systems, beautifully crafted and meticulously operated in a prototypical manner.

There are those that just like to run their trains and let the world go by. There are those who have extraordinary construction skills and produce buildings, landscapes and rolling stock of great integrity; some of which are faithful and realistic reproductions of the originals. There are those who find challenge in the field of electronics and seek to synchronize the sounds of steam and diesel with the associated movement of a train.

We are a mixed bunch of people, united in our hobby, sharing with our ladies the joy of what is known to so many as a “train set.” We have enthusiasts for clockwork, for steam for electricity both AC and DC. We would be delighted to share our world with you and we extend a very cordial invitation to you to meet with us in the near future.

You do NOT have to own a current layout and it does not matter whether you have American diesels or English steamers. Peruvian puffers and Egyptian electrics are equally welcome. We have one member who runs two superb Ghans and they have graced a number of layouts as visitors. We would be delighted to see what interests you and the gauge and scale of your choice.

Far North Queensland Model Railway Club was formed on the 20th. August 1994.
